What counts as an electrical emergency?
Electrical emergencies occur when there is a risk to people or property. Emergencies include: damage to cabling or electrical fittings resulting in exposed live conductors, electrical burning or smouldering caused by failed electrical equipment (call us immediately), damaged or pulled power lines, failed electrical protection and switchboard issues and - if you are medically dependant - a power outage that affects your property (that isn’t planned maintenance in your street or suburb). If you are at all concerned about the safety of your electrical installation, then make sure you immediately call the electrician Onehunga locals trust most. What to do in an electrical emergency?
AT ALL TIMES: If an electrical fire has started, get out of the building and call 111 for the fire service immediately. If you smell electrical burning, notice live parts, or notice damage to your electrical system, head to your main switchboard and switch off the ‘main switch’ or ‘main isolator’. This will kill power to everything downstream of the switchboard. Then, get in touch with us – we’ll be able to identify and rectify any electrical issue. If your overhead powerline has come down or you notice a problem with your external meterboard, stay away from the affected area and call Vector on 0508 VECTOR. Request the Vector emergency disconnect service. They will send a technician out quickly to disconnect power from the grid. If Vector finds that the issue is on your side of the boundary line, get in touch with us – we’ll be able to get your power back up and running quickly.
