Emergency electrician in Auckland

The Conduction Company answers the phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, on (09) 390 0525. Call any time, day or night. The Conduction Company aims to respond to every enquiry the same day, and within 2 hours where there is a risk to health and safety.

Something has gone wrong and you want a straight answer, not a sales pitch. This page tells you what counts as an electrical emergency, what does not, and exactly what The Conduction Company will do when you call.

When to call an electrician straight away

If someone has had an electric shock, call 111 first.

Ring 111 for an ambulance before you ring anyone else, including The Conduction Company. AS/NZS 4836:2023 clause 12.1 says any person who receives an electric shock should seek medical attention immediately, and warns that the full effects are not always obvious straight away, because symptoms can appear later. Call The Conduction Company second, once people are safe, if the electrical risk is still live.

Turn the power off at the main switch and call The Conduction Company straight away if any of these is happening.

  • You can smell burning, or you can see charring or scorch marks on a switchboard, socket, switch, or light fitting.
  • Anyone could be exposed to live wires, from a damaged cable, a broken fitting, or a socket pulled away from the wall.
  • Water has got into your switchboard, a power point, or a light fitting, from flooding, a leak, or heavy rain.
  • The breaker or RCD trips again the moment you reset it, or it keeps tripping with everything unplugged. That points to a fault in the fixed wiring rather than an appliance.
  • You have already reset the breaker three or four times. Repeatedly forcing it back on can damage the contacts and stop it protecting you, which is a fire and shock risk. Leave it off.
  • You are not sure what is going on. Uncertainty is a good enough reason to call The Conduction Company.

Do not open the switchboard and do not poke at wiring. Turning the power off is the full extent of safe DIY.

If your breaker or RCD keeps tripping but nothing else looks wrong, The Conduction Company has a longer guide to why a breaker keeps tripping, and handles the diagnosis itself as part of its electrical fault finding and repairs service.

Keeping Your Property Safe, Compliant, and Running Smoothly

Electrical systems don’t fail all at once they deteriorate slowly, then break suddenly. Most homeowners only call an electrician when something stops working, but by then the damage is already done: tripped circuits, hot-water failures, overloaded switchboards, or hidden faults that put your family at risk.

Our reliable electrician team in Auckland
handles everything from emergency breakdowns to preventative maintenance, helping Auckland homes stay safe, compliant, and efficient all year round.

What can wait until morning

Not everything that happens at night is an emergency, and The Conduction Company would rather tell you that than sell you a night callout.

"No, not really. But only genuine emergencies. If someone has one light which has started flickering at 2am, perhaps just turn the switch off, and wait until the next day to give us a bell."

Jordan Statham, Director of The Conduction Company, Registered Electrician and Registered Electrical Inspector, asked whether there is emergency work the company does not want.

One flickering light, one dead power point, or a single fitting that has stopped working is usually a fault worth fixing properly in daylight. Turn that switch or circuit off, leave it off, and call The Conduction Company in the morning. After-hours fees may apply on a night callout, so waiting is often the cheaper call as well as the calmer one.

If you are not sure which of the two you have, ring anyway. The Conduction Company will tell you straight away whether it can wait.

How fast The Conduction Company responds

Two different things get confused here, so The Conduction Company keeps them separate. Responding means you hear back with a real answer. Attending means a van at your door.

What The Conduction Company promisesTimeframe
Answering the phone24 hours a day, 7 days a week, on (09) 390 0525
Responding to your enquirySame day
Responding where there is a risk to health and safetyWithin 2 hours
Attending a booked non-urgent jobWithin 7 days

Call at 2am and ask whether somebody can come out tonight, and you get a straight answer straight away rather than a maybe. Scheduled work runs during weekday business hours, and The Conduction Company books that in around you. The phone is never closed.

What an emergency callout costs

The Conduction Company does not publish an emergency rate card, because the honest number depends on the time of night, the travel, and what the fault turns out to be. After-hours fees may apply, and The Conduction Company confirms the cost with you before anyone starts work.

We quote on facts, not guesses
Before we give you a price, we carry out a proper assessment of your property and how you'll use the circuit we are repairing.
That way you know exactly what you're buying and the total cost, with no surprises.
Clear expectations from the outset, start to finish.

We have used these guys a couple of times and have been very pleased each time. They did what was requested, but also left an immaculate job, with extra touches like labels on the switches for our outdoor lights. We will definitely be using Jordan and the team again!

Frequently Asked Questions

Emergency Electrician in Auckland

Do you cover my area?

The Conduction Company covers greater Auckland, from Orewa in the north to Papakura in the south, and Waitakere in the west to Maraetai in the east. Travel is tiered, so further-out suburbs carry a higher travel charge. If you are not sure whether you are inside that, call and ask.

My light is flickering. Is that an emergency?

Usually not. A single flickering light can normally wait until morning, and The Conduction Company's advice is to turn that switch off and call during the day. A flickering light with a burning smell, scorch marks, or a breaker that keeps tripping is a different thing, and that one is worth calling about immediately.

Do you charge more for an emergency callout?

After-hours fees may apply, and The Conduction Company confirms any cost with you before work starts. There is no separate emergency rate card, because the real number depends on the time, the travel, and the fault.

Is a tripping RCD an electrical emergency?

Sometimes. An RCD is the device that protects people from electric shock, and in New Zealand AS/NZS 3000:2018 clause 2.6.3.3.1 requires RCD protection with a maximum rated residual current of 30 mA on residential circuits supplying power points and lighting. If yours trips once and resets cleanly, it has probably done its job on a faulty appliance. If it trips again immediately, or keeps tripping with everything unplugged, The Conduction Company treats that as a fault in the fixed wiring and worth calling about.

What should I do while I wait?

Leave the power off. If you have turned off the main switch or the affected circuit, keep it off, and do not keep resetting a breaker that will not stay on. Keep people and pets away from anything damaged, wet, or scorched, and do not open the switchboard. The Conduction Company will tell you on the phone if there is anything else worth doing.

Someone has had an electric shock, what should I do?

Call 111 for an ambulance first, before you call The Conduction Company or anyone else. AS/NZS 4836:2023 clause 12.1 says any person who receives an electric shock should seek medical attention immediately, and the full effects are not always obvious straight away because symptoms can appear later. Once people are safe, turn the power off at the main switch and call The Conduction Company on (09) 390 0525 if the electrical risk is still live.

Can someone come out tonight?

Ring The Conduction Company on (09) 390 0525 and you will be told straight away. The phone is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and where there is a risk to health and safety The Conduction Company aims to respond within 2 hours. Whether a van can be at your door tonight depends on where you are and what is already running, and you will get an honest answer rather than a promise.
