What a new build electrical job actually involves
The Conduction Company prices a new build off the drawings, not off a guess on site. That means the floor plan, the elevations, and whatever the client or the designer has decided about heating, cooking, hot water, EV charging, and solar. Those loads set the size of the mains and the switchboard, so they are worth settling early rather than at fit-off.
AS/NZS 3000:2018, the Wiring Rules, puts it plainly at clause 1.6.3: “Consumer mains, submains and other electrical equipment of an electrical installation shall be designed and installed to meet the maximum demand.” That is why The Conduction Company asks about the induction hob and the second EV before ordering the switchboard, and not after.
The prewire, while the frame is open
The prewire is the visit that decides what the house can do for the next thirty years. The Conduction Company runs it once the frame is up and the roof is on, before the insulation and linings go in.

The fit-off, once the linings are in
Fit-off is the second visit. The Conduction Company fits the switches, sockets, light fittings, heated towel rails, extractor fans, oven and hob connections, heat pump connections, EV charger, and the switchboard itself, then commissions and labels the lot. Data outlets get terminated, and every run gets labelled in the field and at the rack, so the person who follows you can tell which cable goes where.
Testing, certification, and inspection
New Zealand new builds are wired to AS/NZS 3000. Under regulation 59 of the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010, a domestic installation with a maximum demand at or below “80 amperes per phase if single-phase”, or 50 amperes per phase if multi-phase, must be installed, tested, inspected, and connected so as to comply with Part 2 of AS/NZS 3000. Larger installations, which is most commercial new build, must comply with either Part 2 or “a certified design prepared in accordance with Part 1 of AS/NZS 3000”.
Some of the work on a new build is high-risk prescribed electrical work, mains work included, and regulation 70 requires all of it to be inspected. Structured wiring is the fixed cabling backbone of the house: the ethernet, TV, and phone runs that go in the walls and stay there. The Conduction Company's recommendation for an Auckland new build is Cat6 ethernet to every room where someone will work, stream, or wall mount a TV, at least two runs to the main TV wall, a sensible central position for the ONT and a small cabinet or rack, TV aerial cabling to the same positions, and spare conduit with a draw wire to the roof space and the garage. Wifi still matters, so plan a ceiling position for an access point on each level rather than relying on the router.
