The brief
A business site in East Tamaki needed power and fibre run underground to a portable site office. On day one, the site's leaseholder asked for the office to sit further in than the quote allowed for. The office also needed a temporary supply while the permanent connection was arranged, and a new main earth in ground that turned out to be solid rock.
What we did
The Conduction Company trenched the site and laid the underground mains in heavy-duty ducting at about 600 mm deep, with a green Chorus duct for the fibre in the same trench. The team backfilled with a marker tape warning strip in the trench and pulled the mains into the street-side supply pillar, ready for connection.
When the leaseholder moved the office further in, The Conduction Company priced the extra cable, trenching and ducting. The client confirmed that price before work continued, so nothing extra went in without an agreed price.
While the permanent connection was arranged, The Conduction Company installed a temporary power supply from the neighbouring warehouse, and had it tested and working by 1 May 2026. The team then fitted a new combined meter and switchboard, extended the mains cable underground, and installed a new main earth in a Toby enclosure (a small box at ground level). The earth peg had to be driven into solid rock.
An independent inspector inspected and certified the network connection, with a Record of Inspection. The Conduction Company certified its own electrical work.
