Certificates of Verification across Auckland
The estimates below are for a standard Certificate of Verification visit.
The Conduction Company confirms final pricing after a property assessment.
A Certificate of Verification (CoV) is proof that the wiring already in a building is safe to keep using. The Conduction Company carries out CoV visits across Auckland for a fixed $283.90 including GST. Pass, and you get the certificate on the day. Fail, and you get a list of what to fix.
Has someone asked you for an electrical certificate?
A Certificate of Verification answers all of these. The Conduction Company inspects and tests the existing installation and issues the CoV when it is safe.
What is a verification certificate?
A verification certificate, usually called a Certificate of Verification or CoV, is The Conduction Company's signed record that wiring already in place was inspected, tested where needed, and found fit to keep using. New work gets a different certificate, from the electrician who did it.
Who can issue a certificate of verification in NZ?
For reconnecting power, the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010 say the certificate follows section 3 of AS/NZS 3019, and its signer must hold an authorisation to certify work on the mains, The Conduction Company explains. The Conduction Company has a registered Electrical Inspector in-house, Jordan Statham (EWRB registration I272615), alongside its registered electricians. Anyone who signs a certificate can be checked on the EWRB public register, and The Conduction Company shows how in its guide on how to check an electrician is registered in NZ.
A homeowner may do some wiring on their own home under section 79 of the Electricity Act 1992, but it must be tested and certified by a registered person before it is connected. The Conduction Company does not test, certify or connect wiring a homeowner has done.
Why people book a Certificate of Verification
Reconnecting after six months or more without power
Regulation 74 says that once an installation has been disconnected for more than 6 months, with no new work done since, it needs a certificate that it is suitable for continued use, issued no earlier than 6 months before the power goes back on. The Conduction Company prices this reconnection verification separately and confirms the figure when you book. Then you send the certificate to your energy retailer.
An insurer or lender wants proof
In the experience of Jordan Statham, The Conduction Company's director, many insurers now want an electrical certificate before they insure a house, especially an older one. With no recent work to certify, a CoV is the one to give them.
Council asks for the wiring to be verified
The Conduction Company offers a building consent verification of the whole system, a visual inspection with limited testing, priced separately and confirmed when you book.
You have moved in and there is no paperwork
The Conduction Company's CoV checks the whole installation, so you start with a clear picture of what is safe and what is not.
The original electrician never gave you a certificate
Ask them for a copy first, because regulations 74E and 74G make them keep one for at least 7 years. As Jordan Statham, director of The Conduction Company, puts it: "It's not going to cost you anything to get the copy from them, whereas it will for us to come through and review all of the work completed." If they have gone, a CoV is the fallback, and The Conduction Company only certifies what it can test and inspect, as its page on electrical inspection and certification in Auckland explains.
Faults that keep coming back
A CoV is not a hunt for an intermittent fault. If breakers keep tripping, The Conduction Company starts with electrical fault finding instead.
Selling your home
In The Conduction Company's view a sale triggers no certificate, because the duties attach to electrical work being done. The Conduction Company sets out the seller's options on its page for pre-purchase and pre-sale electrical inspections.
What gets checked on a CoV visit
The Conduction Company's standard verification is a visual inspection with limited testing across every part of the installation, checked against AS/NZS 3019 and AS/NZS 3000. It covers the whole installation, so the team needs to reach the switchboard and every room.
The full Section 4/5 test adds insulation resistance, earth continuity, RCD trip times and a switchboard heat check. The Conduction Company recommends it for a known history of problems, work by an unregistered installer, or wiring untouched since before 1970, and prices it separately.
If the installation fails the check
The Conduction Company says up front that a verification does not guarantee a certificate. If something is unsafe, you get a report of the remedial work needed, and the team can quote it at the visit. Once it is done, you get certification for the repair plus a CoV for the whole installation, with the repair under the Lifetime Workmanship Guarantee.
Jordan Statham tells the story of a client whose bathroom was reconfigured with no certificate. The Conduction Company verified it, tested the whole house, and found several other faults that had to be fixed first. "It ends up costing them thousands of dollars, compared to if they had just got the certificate from the original electrician for the bathroom in the first place," he says.
Verification or compliance certificate: which fits your job?
The Conduction Company's short version:
Certificate of Verification (CoV). Checks wiring that is already there, when nobody is doing new work.
Certificate of Compliance (CoC) and Electrical Safety Certificate (ESC). Issued by the electrician who did new work, once it is finished and tested.
Record of Inspection (RoI). Added by an independent inspector when new work is high-risk, such as mains work or grid-connected solar.
New work needs the CoC and ESC, covered on The Conduction Company's page for the electrical CoC and safety certificate in Auckland.
Can you certify electrical work that someone else did?
Sometimes: The Conduction Company only certifies work it has been able to test and inspect. Regulation 66 of the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010 says a certificate of compliance must confirm the person issuing it is satisfied the work was done lawfully and safely. So where work is buried in a wall and cannot be checked, The Conduction Company tells you rather than signing something it cannot stand behind. Where the original certificate is missing, a Certificate of Verification on the existing installation is the usual route.
Why choose The Conduction Company for a CoV?
Certificates kept for years
The Conduction Company keeps every certificate it issues for at least 7 years, and emails you a copy when you ask.

Frequently Asked Questions
Certificate of Verification for Existing Wiring in Auckland
Can an electrician do a CoV?
Yes. A suitably registered electrical worker can issue one, and The Conduction Company's own team signs the CoVs it issues. To reconnect power after more than 6 months off, regulation 74 of the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010 says the certificate must be given by a person authorised to certify mains work.
How to verify an electrical certificate?
Check the person who signed it. The Conduction Company's advice is to search the EWRB public register by their name or registration number and confirm they hold a current practising licence. Under regulation 74A of the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010, an electrical safety certificate must give both.
How can I obtain an electrical safety certificate in New Zealand?
It is issued by whoever completed the wiring job, because regulation 74A of the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010 says the person who completed it must issue one. The Conduction Company issues one for its own electrical work. For existing wiring with no paperwork, you need a Certificate of Verification instead.
How long is a certificate of verification valid for reconnection?
Six months. Under regulation 74, The Conduction Company's certificate has to be dated in the 6 months before the power comes back on, so book the visit close to the day you need it.
Do insurers and power retailers accept a CoV?
Yes, for most purposes. Insurers often ask for an energy works certificate, a broad name for electrical certification, and Jordan Statham, The Conduction Company's registered Electrical Inspector, says a CoV counts as one for reconnection and for insurance.
What access does the team need for a CoV?
The Conduction Company needs to reach the switchboard and every room, because a verification covers the whole house, so someone has to let the team in.
