Electrical certificates for The Conduction Company's work
The estimates below are for standard electrical certification.
The Conduction Company confirms final pricing after a property assessment.
The Conduction Company issues the Certificate of Compliance (CoC) and Electrical Safety Certificate (ESC) its electrical work needs across Auckland. The Conduction Company's certification fee is $45.90 including GST on charge-up work, and it is included in every quoted job. Your copy comes as a PDF with the invoice.
Who asks for a CoC or an ESC?
Each of them wants proof the work was done safely by someone allowed to do it. The Conduction Company issues that proof for its own work and keeps a copy. Every certificate type is listed on its electrical inspection and certification page.
Electrical CoC and ESC: what each one covers
The Conduction Company's plain version of the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010:
Certificate of Compliance (CoC). The paperwork for the job itself: what was done, where, by whom, and the standards it met. Regulation 65 makes it compulsory for new circuits, alterations, additions and any other general or high-risk job.
Electrical Safety Certificate (ESC). The sign-off that the installation is back on and fit to use. Under regulation 74A every job gets one, even a straight swap of a light fitting.
Record of Inspection (RoI). Mains work and solar need a second person: an independent inspector who checks the job and issues the RoI.
On most jobs, The Conduction Company's electrician fills in one combined form that serves as both the CoC and the ESC. For low-risk work, such as replacing a fitting, the ESC is required and the CoC is optional under regulation 65. The Conduction Company explains the third document on its page for an independent Record of Inspection.
How do you get an electrical certificate of compliance?
It comes from whoever did the wiring, and for its own jobs The Conduction Company emails it as a PDF with the invoice once the work is complete, and can print a copy if you need one.
Who can fill out an ESC?
Only the person who completed the work. The form carries their signature, the date and their EWRB registration number, as regulation 74A requires, so a homeowner has no number to give. On a The Conduction Company job, the signature belongs to the electrician who did the work or supervised it.
When is an electrical CoC required?
The Conduction Company issues one on every general or high-risk job, as regulation 65 requires. These are the people who usually ask to see it.
Your insurer
The Conduction Company says insurers have, in rare cases, declined claims where certification could not be produced. Its guide on finding an electrical certificate covers what insurers ask for.
Council and your building consent
Council relies on the electrical certificates when it signs off a consent, and regulation 74A gives the ESC that standing under section 19 of the Building Act 2004. The Conduction Company supplies the certificates for its own work; council issues the Code Compliance Certificate.
Landlords and property managers
The Conduction Company works with property managers across Auckland and sends each certificate with the invoice, so it lands in the property file.
Buyers, when you sell
Buyers and their lawyers often ask for certificates for past electrical work. The sale itself triggers no new certificate, and The Conduction Company sets out the seller's options on its page for pre-purchase and pre-sale electrical inspections.
What must a CoC include?
Think of it as the job's full paperwork. The Conduction Company's CoC names the job and the address, the dates, the electrician and their registration number, the standards the job met, any certified design or manufacturer's instructions it relied on, and the supply it suits, all of which regulations 66 and 67 call for. Test results are optional on the form, but The Conduction Company usually adds photos or a table of them.
No CoC? Your options
The Conduction Company did the work
Ask, and The Conduction Company emails you a copy of the original. Its certificates are saved in several places and kept for seven years or more, past the legal minimum in regulations 74E and 74G.
Another electrician never gave you one
Ask them first. The person who ordered the work is owed a copy under regulation 74E, and Jordan Statham, director of The Conduction Company, says an electrician cannot hold one back for any reason.
When the original electrician cannot be found
A verification checks the existing installation instead. The Conduction Company only certifies what it can test and inspect, and its page on a Certificate of Verification in Auckland covers the visit and the price.
You did the wiring yourself
The Conduction Company does not test, certify or connect wiring a homeowner has done.
How long does it take to do an electrical safety certificate?
The Conduction Company issues it with the invoice. Regulation 74E sets the outer limit for the CoC, within 20 days after completing the work, and regulation 74G for the ESC, within 20 working days after it is issued.
Where do I find my electrical certificate?
Ask whoever did the work: The Conduction Company, like every issuer, must keep a copy for at least 7 years. Regulations 74E and 74G of the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010 set that minimum, and say the issuer must give you a copy within 10 working days of a request from the person who contracted for the work, or the owner or occupier.
If The Conduction Company did the work, your certificate came as a PDF with the invoice email. Its certificates are saved in several places, and it emails a copy of the original whenever you ask.
What does an electrical CoC look like?
Jordan Statham, director of The Conduction Company, describes a typical certificate as a single or double page document with the electrical compliance mark at the top. Regulation 111B says that mark must be easily visible on the front, or near the top, of the certificate. Most certificates also name their type, who commissioned the work, the company's contact details, and the risk category: low, general or high.
How to fill out an electrical certificate of compliance?
Only the electrician who did the work can fill it out, and at The Conduction Company that is the electrician who did or supervised it. Regulation 74A says the electrical safety certificate must be signed and dated and give that person's name and registration number, so there is no version a homeowner can complete. WorkSafe publishes certificate templates, but they are for electrical workers to fill in and sign.
Why choose The Conduction Company for certification?
The Conduction Company's registered Electrical Inspector inspects high-risk work done by its other electricians without bringing an outside inspector in. Auckland clients have left it more than 600 Google reviews at a 5.0 rating, and its work carries the Lifetime Workmanship Guarantee.

Frequently Asked Questions
Electrical CoC and ESC Certificates for Auckland Properties
How do you get an electrical safety certificate?
Ask whoever wired the job: it is theirs to issue. Regulation 74A of the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010 says the person who completed it must issue one, and The Conduction Company emails yours as a PDF with the invoice.
How to get code of compliance in NZ?
A Code Compliance Certificate comes from your council, not an electrician. The Conduction Company supplies the electrical certificates for its own work, which council can use as evidence the electrical work meets the building code.
Can I do my own electrical work in NZ?
Only in narrow cases, under the homeowner exemption in the Electricity Act 1992 (section 79): limited wiring on a home you live in, tested and certified by a registered person before it is switched on. The Conduction Company does not test, certify or connect it.
What are the wiring rules in New Zealand?
The Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010 are the law, and regulation 59 says a typical home's installation must comply with Part 2 of AS/NZS 3000, known as the Wiring Rules. The Conduction Company lists the standards each job met on its certificate.
How long is an electrical CoC or safety certificate valid for?
Jordan Statham, director of The Conduction Company, says they do not expire. Two six-month limits apply: regulation 73A for connecting after new work, and regulation 74 for reconnecting an installation that has been off for more than 6 months.
How often do I need an electrical safety certificate?
Each time prescribed electrical work is done, because regulation 74A ties the certificate to the work. The Conduction Company's reading is that nothing requires a house to be re-certified on a timetable.
Is an electrical safety certificate a legal requirement?
Yes. Regulation 74A of the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010 says the person who completed prescribed electrical work must issue one. The Conduction Company issues one for all of its electrical work.
How quickly do I get my certificate, and who keeps a copy?
The Conduction Company sends it with the invoice. The legal outer limits are 20 days after the work for the CoC, under regulation 74E, and 20 working days after issue for the ESC, under regulation 74G. The Conduction Company also keeps its own copy for seven years or more, which matters most when you sell and a buyer's lawyer asks for it.
What is the difference between a Certificate of Compliance and an Electrical Safety Certificate?
One is about the job, the other about the result. The Certificate of Compliance is the record of the job and the person who did it, and the law makes it compulsory for any general or high-risk job (regulation 65). The Electrical Safety Certificate, from regulation 74A, says the installation is back on and fit to use. The Conduction Company's electricians issue both, usually on one combined form.
